Case and Testing Highlights
Yesterday we received a positive COVID-19 test result for a staff person at The Sequoias Portola Valley. We are doing contact tracing and notifying individuals who may need to self-isolate. We will be deploying a third-party service to deep clean specified areas of the community.
The two Tamalpais staff members who recently tested positive are selfisolating and recovering at home. They are doing well. There are still zero resident cases of COVID-19 in our communities.
Since March, 547 staff members and 1079 residents have been tested for COVID-19. Our low numbers of positive cases are thanks to our COVID-19 Action Plan and the vigilance of staff and residents.

Stepping Out of SIP (Shelter in Place)
Reigniting our routines, our communities, and our services is mission
critical. We are working hard to create plans that will continue to
safeguard staff, residents, and customers.

taken the lead on establishing a SIP Step Plan and will be reviewing
this plan with Residents’ Association Board members over the next few

Thursday June 4
This Monday and Tuesday, San Mateo County Health conducted COVID-
19 testing of all residents and staff at The Sequoias Portola Valley (SPV).
Later this week and into next, local public health departments will test staff
and residents at The Tamalpais and at The Sequoias San Francisco.
Details about this will be coming from the Executive Directors. We are
prepared and will keep you informed about the results.
As of today, we continue to have no confirmed resident cases of COVID-19
in our communities, and no new staff cases. Our four staff members who
were previously impacted have fully recovered and are back at work. I am
grateful to all of you for continuing to go the extra mile to keep residents and staff safe.
Wednesday May 20
As of today, we have ZERO residents who have tested positive for COVID-19. When residents have had symptoms, we have tested them. They have all been negative. We have had a total of four staff cases, and all are doing well.
Several months ago, we established our COVID-19 Action Plan, and adopted what some felt were strict protocols. Those Sequoia Standards have kept COVID out of our buildings. I thank each of you for working with us to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Very Few Covid-19 Cases So Far
So far, we have had zero resident and three staff cases. You all deserve our thanks for continuing to follow the standards put in place–it is working well at all locations. The Sequoias Portola Valley (SPV) staff member who tested positive last week is on the mend. The other SPV staff member who was diagnosed mid-April is doing well at home. These were unrelated cases in separate departments.

I am happy to report that there are no active Resident or Staff cases at Sequoia Living. The Media continues to report inaccurate or inflated information. Please get your ‘news’ about Sequoia Living directly from us. We will continue to be timely and transparent. We appreciate your willingness to wear masks, social distance, and show support from afar.

Coronavirus Update – Western Park Apartments (WPA)

Dear Sequoia Living Residents, Customers, and Staff Members,
We were just notified that despite our extensive precautionary measures, an employee at one of our Affordable Housing communities, Western Park Apartments (WPA), has tested positive for COVID-19. The last time the employee was at work was the morning of Tuesday, March 24. The employee is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s protocol and is currently self-quarantined at home under the care of a physician and is exhibiting only mild symptoms.

COVID-19 has changed our daily lives in unprecedented ways, from where we travel to how we interact with our friends and loved ones. This pandemic requires us to be resilient, dedicated, cautious, and compassionate. It challenges us to work together and to support one another.

Sequoia Living Commitment
As of Friday, March 13, 2020, the Sequoia Living COVID-19 Action Plan captures the most up to date information enabling us to be proactive in adopting practices designed to keep Residents, Customers, and Staff safe. We will continue to work closely with our Medical Directors and other Regulatory Agencies to update and refine this Action Plan.

Coronavirus – Actions Being Taken by Sequoia Living
We are closely monitoring the ongoing situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and realize how concerning the outbreak is for Sequoia Living residents, customers, and staff. We are being proactive and diligent in our efforts to reduce the risk of COVID-19 in our communities and sites.
What Sequoia Living is doing:
- Vendors, home health providers, visitors, and staff have been instructed to refrain from entering our communities or sites if they have symptoms of respiratory illness or have traveled to countries within the Level 2 or Level 3 virus spread.
- Our communities and sites are being encouraged to form Task Forces to establish location-specific protocol regarding visitors, events, and programs. To reduce the number of large assemblies, we are using email, voicemail, and in-house TV channels for regular updates.
- We are emphasizing to residents and customers the necessity to self-isolate if they have any cold or flu symptoms.
- Our staff members are firmly committed to not coming to work if they have flu symptoms. Clearance from a medical professional may be required before staff return to work.
- Leadership is closely reviewing our well-documented infection control protocols and ensuring our communities and sites are fully prepared in the event of an emergency.
- We are conducting more meetings with video technology to minimize groups congregating at our communities and sites.
- Our staff members are working to keep communities and sites stocked with medical supplies and sanitizing agents/products. Staff are spending additional time wiping down surfaces with proper cleaning agents.
- Our team members are actively tracking the latest updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the California Department of Public Health.
- Our corporate and community Medical Directors are closely communicating with leadership staff. Additionally, we are closely following health guidelines and recommendations from the CDC and public health officials.
- Everyone is encouraged to respectfully (and immediately) say something if they encounter any staff, visitor, vendor, resident, or customer who appears to have symptoms and is in a public area.
How you can protect yourself from COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Stay home if you are sick with respiratory illness symptoms, including fever and coughing.
